Should I buy Socom?

I've been looking for a new shooter game given Vegas 2 is old for me.  Noticed the PS3 online store has SOCOM for sale, not sure what all is in this version.  Do you guys think it's worth buying currently?  Are there a good amount of people still playing this game?

How many missions are in the campaign?  Is there a coop?

Are the online multiplayer server PRs generally full?  What about official servers?

Please let me know your thoughts.  Yes I could read other reviews and posts, but would rather read what you think firsthand.

Thank you in advance.

No campaign, no coop. 12000-16000 players on during prime time. I would suggest buying it on disk, you can get a used copy for 15-20 dollars.

Thats the 1 trillion dollar question.

Thats like the government debating over the health care reform.  (PATHETIC)

I would say yes, if you can get it for dirt cheap.

It really depends on what type of game you're looking for and what types of games you like.

If you just want something you can pick up for a half an hour here and there and have some fun with it, that isn't SOCOM.

If, however, you're looking for a game that makes your heart pound and your palms all sweaty as you hover over the plant zone, with grenades exploding everywhere and  bullets whizzing by, knowing that every one of your (dead) teammates is watching, and critiquing your every move, and probably calling you a noob and much worse, because you don't have eyes in the back of your head to see that guy getting ever closer with his stupid one shot De.50 as that goddamn plant meter slowly ticks to full green, then yep, I would say SOCOM is a good fit.

As to your questions, there is no campaign. It's multiplayer only.

Yes, there servers are full,

Re: Should I buy Socom?

No. It's an absolute piece of junk. If you buy it you'll be embarrassed that you did. Vegas 6 is a million miles better. You'll be bored within two days.

it's totally full of things that are wrong with it (still) and yet the developers can't be bothered to do anything about it.

There's over 29000 posts on here and I'm pretty sure that most of them are complaining about how poo this game is.

Don't do it, it's garbage! Most of the people that play it only do so because they can remember the 'good old days' when Socom was actually good (Socom 1 and 2 - everything else has been a disaster) and they're hoping Slant Six will make it better but they won't.

A good game ruined.....

Wow....those are some harsh words from somebody that has only played for one day in only respawn rooms. Buy the game and make sure you have a headset. Fair warning Socom is addicting.

Re: Should I buy Socom?

You're on a Socom forum most would say yes.

I'll tell you yes, I actually like this game. I've sold alot of my games at the moment I have LBP, Killzone 2, SFIV, and COD WaW and I don't like to play any of them except for Socom.

Re: Should I buy Socom?

I'd look into buying it used on a disc.  It won't take up as much hdd space that way and you can probably get a better deal.  I think it's fun.  It's the only game I play and although it has some problems (which I post about on the forums in hopes of getting them fixed) I think that it's easily worth 20 bucks.

A warning:

If you have ADD and only want to play respawns for 20minutes at a time, this game isn't for you.  The comparison I like to make is between chess and checkers.  There's nothing wrong with playing checkers, but if you start a game of chess don't start **bleep**ing when your opponent tries to think about his next move.  It's a more complicated game and as a result you have to allow for it to be a little slower.

Thanks much for the advice.  Will continue to read the threads.  If I do buy the game I guess I better get a used disc, versus paying ps3 store full price.  Yes I already have a mic.
