My opinion on the motion controls.

This motion control thing is bigger than socom 4.  It is Sony's plan to court the wii audience as they hit the technological wall with that system, which is incredibly limited, aside from the motion gimmick.

I see this motion control being added AS AN OPTION in the single player of socom 4 as a 2 headed demo dragon for the upcoming gaming convention season.  Think about it.

They throw in a working motion control option in an upcoming first party title to highlight the feasability of motion control in more than just a "casual" role, as well as highlight the game itself.  Its actually very smart marketting wise.

Until I see differently, I'm going to see this as not much more than a working tech demo in an actual upcoming title.  Look for a big demonstration with this game and that functionality at E3

And just an aside.  I wish that it was possible for this "the sky is falling" mentality to die in our fanbase.  It has poisoned us and led us to be something that, as a developer, i wouldn't want much to do with.  Its fine to expect things of a title, but not fine to not allow for growth, due to nastalgia.  Games have to grow and change.  Nothing in the gaming industry is static, nor should it be, regardless of how beastly 2003 was for most of you.

Re: My opinion on the motion controls.

I wanted to crack a joke about you pointing out the completely obvious...  but this community doesn't seem to understand the completely obvious so I guess someone needs to spell it out for them.

There is growth and evolution and then there is growth and evolution. Look at Halo, not much has changed except on the community front. I don't see many people complaining about that, and when they did change it with ODST, it met the same fate as things around here. This game could of been the same.

It's times like these that show the comunity that holds themselves to be above the maturity of CoD and the like gamers...stick their foot right into their mouths.

trust me man, I know.  I've been dealing with them for longer than i'd care to think about.  I know how they think.  But the only thing that keeps me coming back is that last kernel of fanboyism, plus the few here that are level headed individuals who post some great points.  There are more than you'd think, if you pay attention.

Re: My opinion on the motion controls.

I agree, this was a simple demo of the game.

1) the cover system: MAY only be used in the single player/co op part of the game. We simply don't know.

2) IT looks a hell of a lot better than when they first started to show confrontation (and I think even at its current state)

3) We have already seen that tactical hand gestures are back, this is a definite plus.

4) the grenade sounds, character speed and movement looks good

5)The in game physics are looking good so far

Overall I see this being just a snapshot of the game. CAN'T WAIT

Halo is perfect for the audience they are targeting, adding anything else would make the game to complex for them.

Socom was full of flaws, owing it's success to the fact that it was unique at the time.

I would not play socom 1 or 2 today, the newest socoms may be lacking in several departments but they took huge bounds in fixing the flaws in the franchise. I have confidence that socom 4 will be another bound without all the shortcoming from the lack of supprot found in confrontation.

Re: My opinion on the motion controls.

This is exactly what I tried explaining to someone before... I was deemed a moron, oh well.

2 minutes of video + 6 days since S4's announcement = SOCOM 4 sucks, get rid of zipper, its the end of the series... I just dont get it.

BTW Wrath, nice youtube vids, I subbed and actually went and got MAG and joined Valor because of your most recent two part video LOL

We only think the sky is falling because it has been falling since socom 3. I was never looking forward to a game like I was Socom 3. And they changed my favorite game of all time and it never came back.
To me the motion controller might as well be the gun from Duckhunt. Its not what socom is. I don't think call of duty or halo would use motion controls, or some gimmick controller. They know what their fans want and they give it to them. Those games have also managed to evolve, without changing the game drastically. Why can't zipper or whoever get it through their head? We want Socom. Thats it. Not anything else. Just Socom.
